Marc Benioff used an image of a mountain peak when introducing Apex at Dreamforce this week. The definition of "apex" is the "highest point" or "peak". So does Apex live up to it’s name? Time will tell. But I’m excited by the premise of Apex. This is why.
My perspective is that of a user who uses SFDC to wage and win battles for market share. So I’m very interested in the sharp end of SFDC – specifially it’s SFA, BI and marketing automation capabilities – and at street level – the ability of SFDC to help me kick competitive ass. Based upon this, my conclusions from Dreamforce are:
1. SFDC has the SFA piece nailed. Using SFDC to manage contacts, leads, opportunities, tasks, events, etc., is bullet proof.
2. AppExchange offers the powerful potential for a campaigner like me to pick, plug, play and develop apps that will help me wage and win battles for market share.
3. Apex now offers me the opportunity to write my own code (or modify existing SFDC code) to create my own totally customized app.
So is this really the apex? Yea, for my needs it is.
