This headline Comcel eyes profitability rather than market share – Haiti caught my attention. Comcel’s IT Director Damaz Alexis told BNamericas in an interview that:
"We don’t want to get into the market share battle but rather
look for a balance between market share and profitability,"
Comcel is competing with Irish owned Digicel for mobile customers in Haiti – a high risk, volatile market to say the least. For any competitor to public state competive strategy always surprises me. Unless there is more to the strategy. As in Comcel signaling Digicel its intentions. Assuming this really is Comcel’s strategy, seems to me Digicel will have a field day with Comcel in Haiti.
