This is what Tom Peters recently said about badmouthing the competition:
I think that when one badmouths one’s competitors or tries to limit
their activities, the "word gets around." And one develops a reputation
as prickly and egocentric—and, well, as a selfish jerk.
This is what Tom Peters recently said about buying competitor George Stalk’s book Hardball:
…I could make certain that if I had the last copy, the evidence of such a waste of paper would not disappear.
This is what I recently said about Tom Peter’s ripping George Stalks book:
Tom Peters was one of those who found the book not to his liking. He rips the book in his blog
concluding it was not worth the paper it was printed upon. I don’t know
if it is jealousy or insecurity that causes him to lash out like this.
It is unfortunate because rather than engaging in another one of his
exclamation pointed rants, he should be presenting a well reasoned case
for why he believes George to be wrong.
So does this make Tom Peters prickly, egocentric and a selfish jerk?

So does this make Tom Peters prickly, egocentric and a selfish jerk?
NO — of course not.
[Snarky comment forthcoming:] Just because George Stalk wrote a management book doesn’t make him a competitor of Tom Peters (in the mind of Tom Peters, perhaps).
Hmmmmm… isn’t competition determined by your customers? As a customer of both Tom Peter’s and George Stalk I consider them competitive.
And my point in my rant was Tom’s rant – I would of enjoyed a more reasoned explanation from Tom why he disagrees with George…
